Dragoons from Iron Troop, 3rd Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment, maneuver through a forest toward a simulated enemy stronghold. Their mission was to capture a high value target as part of a combined training exercise with Estonian Allies in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve, March 7, 2015, in Rabassare, Estonia. Soldiers with 3rd Squadron, 2nd Cavalry Regiment parade through Rose Barracks, April 1, 2015 after returning from a deployment in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve. Before reaching their home station, 2nd Cavalry Regiment drove 1,800 km from Estonia through Lithuania, Poland, Latvia, the Czech Republic and finally Germany. EUCOM provides update on the European Reassurance Initiative

U.S. European Command continues to support the defense and security of NATO allies and bolster the security and capacity of U.S. partners in Europe. The European Reassurance Initiative (ERI), part of the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act of 2015, signed by President Obama on December 19, 2014, included $985 million in ERI funds. These monies enable the Department of Defense to continue its efforts to reinforce America’s solemn commitment to the safety and territorial integrity of our allies and to strengthen the security and capacity of our partners in the region.

U.S. Marine armor, weapons arrive in Bulgaria

U.S. Marine tanks, artillery, and light-armored reconnaissance vehicles have arrived in Bulgaria to support NATO allies and international partner countries. The heavy equipment, assigned to the Combined Arms Company, Black Sea Rotational Force, arrived in Novo Selo Training Area, Bulgaria, Aug. 25, 2015. The tanks, artillery, and light armored reconnaissance vehicles were loaded on trains and moved across Europe demonstrating our allies’ and international partners’ ability to move heavy equipment across the region to support operations during a crisis. The equipment will allow the Marines to participate in mechanized regional multinational exercises in Eastern Europe.

Commander visits Israel

U.S. European Command Commander General (****) Curtis M. Scaparrotti met Israeli Defense Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen Gadi Eizenkot at the IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv this morning. He then traveled to Jerusalem and met Israeli President Reuven Rivlin at the President’s Residence. Later in the day, General Scaparrotti was given a guided tour of Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Museum, and laid a wreath at the Hall of Remembrance in memory of the victims of the Holocaust.

MONTEBOURG, France--More than 100 U.S. Army Soldiers, join the commanding general, French compatriots and people of Montebourg, France, during a march from the town center to the town's World War II memorial wall. Select Soldiers from "Fighting Eagles," 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 4th Inf. Div., participated in the march to the memorial dedication hosted by Maj. Gen. Ryan F. Gonsalves, commanding general of the 4th Inf. Div., Monteburg civic leaders, French compatriots and veterans. The Soldiers of 3rd ABCT are currently deployed in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve, U.S. forces' commitment to the collective security of eastern Europe, conducting bilateral training and multinational exercises with NATO Allies and Partners. The last time the 1st Bn., 8th Inf. Regt. deployed to Europe the Fighting Eagle Soldiers landed at Utah Beach with the Assault Division on D-Day in 1944. The 1st Bn., 8th Inf. Regt., currently stationed in Romania, sent Soldiers who had recently earned the Expert Infantryman's Badge during testing earlier this year. BREMERHAVEN, Germany— The first combat power into the European theater for DEFENDER-Europe 20 has rolled down the ramp of the American Roll-on Roll-off Carrier The Endurance at the port of Bremerhaven in Germany, February 20. The equipment belongs to 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, deploying to Germany from Fort Stewart, Georgia. The arrival of the ARC Endurance signifies the next major step of DEFENDER-Europe 20, the largest deployment of Soldiers from the U.S. to Europe for an exercise in more than 25 years.

Oregon Army National Guard chemical officer contributes to safe environment in Kosovo

CAMP BONDSTEEL-- A team of Italian Army Hazmat Soldiers approaches a building storing chemical waste, Kosovo Security Forces CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosives) company suits up in white chemical protective gear as 1st Lt. Robert Boyer follows behind them and looks around the outside perimeter making notes of any hazards Oct. 1, 2020 at one of Kosovo’s largest energy plants in Obilic/Obiliq, Kosovo. When placed in the safety officer role for the Kosovo Force Regional Command-East deployment, Boyer, an Army chemical officer organic to the 41st Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Oregon Army National Guard, never imagined that he would be tasked with a special project to visit abandoned and functioning factories around Kosovo and provide recommendations regarding chemical safety.
