US Soldiers delivering equipment for Saber Strike Exercise

Those participating in Exercise Saber Strike downloaded military vehicles and storage containers to Pabrade, Lithuania

U.S. and Lithuanian soldiers transported equipment from Klaipeda to Pabrade, Lithuania as a part of the Reception, Staging and Onward Movement phase of Exercise Saber Strike from June 2-3, 2017.

Soldiers from the 1st Infantry Division Sustainment Brigade in Fort Riley, Kansas, 4th Infantry Division in Fort Carson, Colorado, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division from the Minnesota National Guard and Lithuanian Soldiers participating in Exercise Saber Strike downloaded military vehicles and storage containers from the Green Ridge ship and transported the equipment to Pabrade, Lithuania.

Sgt. Mathew Sherwood, a Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck driver with 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, reflects on his experience transporting the equipment from Klaipeda to Pabrade.

"We had an easy trip taking around eight hours with the Lithuanian police blocking off the road-ways along the way," said Sherwood. "It really helped us get through traffic."

While driving to Pabrade, the Soldiers had a positive reaction from for people in the Lithuania.

"We received lots of positive reaction along the way with waving and lots of photography of the big trucks going by," said Sherwood.

The Saber Strike Exercise program facilitates cooperation between the U.S., Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and other Allied and partner nations to improve joint operational capability in a variety of missions and prepare the participating nations and units for future operations while enhancing the NATO Alliance. This is just one in a number of exercises that demonstrate the U.S. commitment to the collective security of NATO Allies and partners and our dedication to enduring peace and stability in the region.
