The Senior Enlisted Leader for United States European Command advises the commander on enlisted issues, and provides leadership to the 82,000 joint service members distributed over 400 bases and facilities in an area of responsibility covering 51 countries. The Senior Enlisted Leader provides guidance on theater security cooperation promotes enlisted professional development, through training and education in order to build partner nations’ capacity and improve inner-operability, and serves as a mentor for senior enlisted in the European footprint to include: U.S. service components; partner nations within NATO; and Partnership-for-Peace countries.
Fleet Master Chief (SS/SW) Addington assumed the duties as Senior Enlisted Leader for U.S. European Command in May 2016. He hails from Summerville, OR, and graduated from Imbler High School in 1984. He entered the Delayed Entry Program in February 1984 and commenced active duty in January 1985. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts “Magna Cum Laude” with a focus in Administration and Management from Excelsior College in November 2008.
Formal schools include Basic Training in San Diego, CA, Basic Electricity and Electronics school in Great Lakes, IL, Basic Enlisted Submarine School in Groton, CT, Submarine Sonar “A” and “C” schools in San Diego, CA, the Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 110 Brown), Command Master Chief/Chief of the Boat Course in Newport, RI, the National Defense University Keystone Course, Asia Pacific Orientation Course, and the Naval Postgraduate School’s Navy Senior Leader Seminar.
Shore assignments include: Shift Maintenance LPO at Fleet Anti-Submarine Training Center Pacific from 1991-1993, Navy Leadership and Development Program Facilitator and Master Training Specialist at Coronado, CA from 1998-2001, Submarine Squadron Seven Command Master Chief in Pearl Harbor, HI from 2007-2009, Submarine Group Seven/CTF 74/CTF54 Command Master Chief in Yokosuka, Japan from 2009-2012 which included “Operation Tomadachi”, and Navy Recruiting District, Seattle Command Master Chief from 2012-2013.
Sea assignments include: USS TAUTOG (SSN 639) from 1986-1988, USS BARB (SSN 596) WESTPAC 1987 where he earned his Enlisted Submarine Dolphins, USS NORFOLK (SSN 714) from 1989-1991, USS CHICAGO (SSN 721) from 1994-1995, USS LA JOLLA (SSN 701) from 1995-1998, USS JEFFERSON CITY (SSN 759) from 2001-2003, Chief of the Boat on USS HELENA (SSN 725) from 2004-2007 and U.S. SEVENTH FLEET Command Master Chief from 2013-2016.
His list of Decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal with three gold stars, Navy Commendation Medal with one gold star, Navy Achievement Medal with four gold stars, Good Conduct Medal with seven bronze stars, and various other medals and ribbons.
