The 53rd U.S.-Italy Joint Military Commission (JMC) convened on May 14, 2025, at the Italian Air Staff Headquarters in Rome, Italy. The semi-annual meeting fostered continued collaboration and strengthened the longstanding security partnership between the United States and Italy.

The JMC was co-chaired by Brigadier General Chris McKinney, Michigan Army National Guard, Deputy Director (J5) of Partnering, Security Cooperation, and Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction, and Rear Admiral (lower half) Marco Montoneri, Deputy head of Strategic Direction and Military Cooperation of the Italian Defense General Staff. The meeting included representatives from U.S. European Command (EUCOM), its Components, and U.S. and Italian Base Commanders from bases in Italy.

Discussions focused on mutual security cooperation initiatives and Basing Agreements, reinforcing the commitment of both nations to regional stability and collective defense.

"The Joint Military Commission provides a crucial forum for the United States and Italy to align our security objectives and enhance our interoperability," said Brigadier General McKinney. "This dialogue ensures our enduring partnership remains strong and responsive to evolving security challenges."

The next U.S.-Italy Joint Military Commission (JMC 54) is scheduled to be held in Aviano, Italy, in November 2025, and will be hosted by the United States.
