STUTTGART, Germany – Two U.S. Air Force B-52 Stratofortress Bombers arrived at Royal Air Force Fairford, United Kingdom today, while a third B-52 is expected to arrive later this week.
The strategic bomber aircraft will support multiple exercises in the U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command areas of responsibility, and will also participate in the Berlin Air Show. This deployment marks the third year in a row that strategic bomber aircraft have deployed to Europe.
The B-52s will participate in long-planned exercises Saber Strike 16 and BALTOPS 16, as well as AFRICOM’s Exercise Just Hammer, all of which provide unique opportunities for bomber crews to integrate and train with Allies and partners in multiple AORs.
While each exercise is distinct and separate from one another, the B-52s’ participation in multiple exercises and training events ensures the efficient use of limited resources. While the U.S. maintains a strong, credible bomber force that enhances the security and stability of our Allies and partners, bomber operations also provide a visible demonstration of the U.S.’s ability to project power globally and readiness to respond to any potential threats or adversarial challenges.
