U.S. European Command Chaplain (U.S. Air Force Col.) Kleet Barclay (middle row, far right) welcomes more than 100 attendees to the International Military Chiefs of Chaplains Conference held virtually from Stuttgart, Germany, on Feb. 2, 2022. Military chaplains from more than 40 countries met for two days to discuss religious freedom in peace and war. Ambassador Tracy and Brigadier General Edward Vaughan from U.S. European Command participated in a ceremony at the Central Military Hospital to mark the donation of $639,000 worth of medical equipment from the Global Peace Operations Initiative to Armenia’s expeditionary military medical unit. GPOI is a Department of State program intended to build international capacity to execute United Nations peacekeeping operations. The equipment, donated to support the Armenians in their pledge to deploy a Level II hospital to a UN mission, included defibrillators, X-ray machines, tents, generators, lights, and other supplies. Ambassador Tracy highlighted the courage and dedication of Armenia’s military medical personnel and expressed her sincere wishes that the donated equipment will save and improve many Armenian lives. This event marks only the most recent chapter of our long-standing partnership with Armenia, led by the Embassy’s Office of Defense Cooperation, helping modernize Armenia’s civilian and military medical and disaster response capabilities.
