History in the making: The 1st Bn., 77th Field Artillery Regiment launches HIMARS

In field training exercise Rail Gunner Lightning, 1st Battalion, 77th Field Artillery Regiment will fire their first rounds since reactivation in late August 2020. The 41st Field Artillery Brigade is the only U.S. long-range, precision-strike capable Multiple Launcher Rocket Systems unit in Europe. The brigade is ready and capable to deploy in support of our NATO allies and partners. UK Carrier Strike Group Assembles

The full United Kingdom (UK) Carrier Strike Group (CSG) assembled at sea on 04 October, 2020. The (CSG) is led by Her Majesty's Ship Queen Elizabeth and includes flotilla of destroyers and frigates from the UK, the Netherlands, the USS The Sullivans, and 15 F-35B Lightning II's from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 211 and the UK's 617 Squadron. One U.S. KC-135 assigned to the 155th Air Refueling Wing, provide additional fuel to four U.S. Air Force Fighting Falcons assigned to the 52nd Fighter Wing, near Ostrava, Czechia Sept. 19, 2020. These aircraft later flew over the "NATO Days" airshow in Ostrava, Prague and Pilsen, Czech Republic.

A three-ship formation of B-52H Stratofortress aircraft, assigned to the 5th Bomb Wing at Minot Air Force Base, North Dakota, depart RAF Fairford, England, to take part in a Bomber Task Force (BTF) Europe mission over the Ukraine on Sep. 4, 2020. The strategic bomber missions provide theater familiarization for aircrew members and opportunities for U.S. integration with NATO allies and regional partners. Unsafe, unprofessional intercept of US bomber by Russian aircraft over the Black Sea

At approximately 11:19 a.m. on Aug. 28, 2020, two Russian Su-27 Flanker pilots intercepted a U.S. Air Force B-52 bomber that was conducting routine operations in the black sea over international waters. The Russian pilots flew in an unsafe and unprofessional manner while crossing within 100 feet of the nose of the B-52 multiple times at co-altitude and while in afterburner causing turbulence and restricting the B-52’s ability to maneuver. The B-52 Stratofortress aircraft was conducting routine operations in international airspace exercising our freedom of navigation and overflight. The U.S. Air Force routinely operates aircraft in the region in accordance with recognized international safety standards as prescribed in International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) rules of flight.

US Soldiers arrive in Poland for Defender Europe

Brandon Kennedy, battalion operations officer, with 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, discuss their unit’s arrival and subsequent training in Poznan, Poland, July 16, 2020. The Fort Hood based unit deployed to participate in Defender Europe 20 Phase II at Drawsko Pomorskie Training Area, Poland. DEFENDER-Europe 20 was designed as a deployment exercise to build strategic readiness in support of the U.S. National Defense Strategy and NATO deterrence objectives. In response to COVID-19, DEFENDER-Europe 20 was modified in size and scope. Phase I of the modified DEFENDER-Europe 20 was linked exercise Allied Spirit, which took place at Drawsko Pomorskie Training Area, Poland, June 5-19, with approximately 6,000 U.S. and Polish Soldiers. In Phase II of the modified DEFENDER-Europe 20, a U.S.-based combined arms battalion will conduct an Emergency Deployment Readiness Exercise to Europe July 14 – Aug. 22.
