SECDEF Authorizes Dependents Departure From Turkey
28 March 2016 - News Release about SECDEF decision to move dependents out of Turkey

STUTTGART, Germany – The Secretary of Defense, in coordination with the Secretary of State, has authorized the departure of all DoD dependents stationed in Turkey, effective today, March 28th., due to growing security concerns in the region.

DoD family members whose sponsors are not serving under Chief of Mission authority and are assigned to Izmir, Mugla, Marmaris, Adana, and Incirlik Air Base will depart under the authority of an Ordered Departure. U.S. European Command intends to mitigate the risk to DoD elements and personnel, including family members, within the authorities and means of the command, while ensuring the combat effectiveness of U.S. forces and our mission support to operations in Turkey.

The Ordered Departure is temporary in nature and will be reviewed every thirty days. U.S. forces stationed at Incirlik Air Base will aid in the transportation of citizens returning to the United States and will continue current mission operations.
