U.S. European Command to Host Change of Command Ceremony

STUTTGART, Germany – United States European Command (EUCOM) will host a change of command

ceremony May 3 at 10 a.m. at Patch Barracks, Stuttgart, Germany.

U.S. Army Gen. Curtis M. Scaparrotti will assume command from U.S. Air Force Gen. Philip M. Breedlove. The ceremony will be held outside at Washington Square and in case of inclement weather the ceremony will be moved indoors. U.S. Secretary of Defense, Ashton B. Carter and U.S. Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff, Joseph Dunford Jr. are scheduled to preside over the ceremony.

General Curtis M. Scaparrotti is a native of Logan, Ohio, graduated from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, in 1978, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. A career infantry officer, General Scaparrotti is the Commander, United Nations Command / Combined Forces Command / U. S. Forces Korea. He most recently served as the Director, Joint Staff. Prior to his tour with the Joint Staff, General Scaparrotti served as Commander, International Security Assistance Force Joint Command and Deputy Commander, U.S. Forces – Afghanistan, the Commanding General of I Corps and Joint Base Lewis-McChord, and the Commanding General of the 82nd Airborne Division.

His military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, Command and General Staff College, and the U.S. Army War College. He holds a Master’s Degree in Administrative Education from the University of South Carolina.

Please be aware, routine traffic routes may be disrupted and parking availability may be limited starting May 2 until the afternoon of May 3. Military personnel who plan to attend the event should wear service- specific camouflage pattern uniforms unless otherwise directed.

The EUCOM change of command ceremony is scheduled to be broadcasted "live" online at http://www.defense.gov/.
