Maj. Gen. Peter B. Andrysiak Jr., U.S. Army

Chief of Staff

Major General Peter B. Andrysiak Jr., assumed duties as the Chief of Staff, U.S. European Command, Patch Barracks, Stuttgart, Germany on July 24, 2023. He previously served as the Director of Operations, J-3, U.S. European Command.

MG Andrysiak was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army Corps of Engineers upon graduation from the United States Military Academy and has served in a variety of positions throughout the United States, Europe, the Pacific, and Asia.

MG Andrysiak commanded U.S. Army Alaska/ Deputy Commander, United States Alaskan Command; Pacific Ocean Division; 2nd Engineer Brigade; 20th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade.

He also served as the Chief of Staff, U.S. Army Pacific; Deputy Commanding General (Support), 25th Infantry Division; Chief of Staff, 3rd Infantry Division; Chief of Staff, U.S. Forces Afghanistan; Executive Officer to the Chief of Engineers/Commanding General, United States Army Corps of Engineers; Deputy Commanding Officer, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.

His previous operational assignments include Operation Support Hope, Rwanda 1994; Operation Desert Thunder, Kuwait 1998; Operation Iraqi Freedom, Iraq 2004-05 and 2006-07; Operation Enduring Freedom, Afghanistan 2010-11 and 2014; and Operation Freedom's Sentinel, Afghanistan 2015.

MG Andrysiak holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point, a Master of Science in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and a Master of Science in National Security Strategy from the National War College. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Maryland.

His decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal (with two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters); Legion of Merit (with three Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters); Bronze Star Medal (two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters); Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (Silver Oak Leaf Cluster); Joint Service Commendation Medal; Army Commendation Medal (two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters); Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (one Gold Star); and the Army Achievement Medal (two Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters). He has earned the Combat Action Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, and Ranger Tab.

MG Andrysiak is married and has two children.
