F-16 Fighting Falcons, based at Aviano Air Base, Italy, deployed to Krzesiny Air Base, Poland, during Aviation Detachment Rotation 17-3, supported Exercises BALTOPs and Saber Strike over Latvia, June 7, 2017.
During the mission, the F-16s air-refueled from a 100th Air Refueling Wing KC-135 Stratotanker, based at RAF Mildenhall, United Kingdom.
The Aviation Detachment supports four rotations every year, where the 52nd Operations Group, Detachment 1, represents the first permanent operational military presence in Poland. The rotations consist of squadrons or detachments from active duty, Reserve and Air National Guard wings, which represent various aircraft and capabilities. Every rotation brings a unique set of opportunities for the U.S. and regional partners to explore new ways to train together.
These deployments augment U.S. presence in Europe and further enhance the strength of our alliances without the need to permanently base additional aircraft and Airmen in Europe. Through strengthened relationships and engagements with our Allies, the United States and NATO demonstrate their shared commitment to a peaceful, stable and secure Europe.
