U.S. forces began participating in Cutaway 2018, a bi-lateral engagement with French forces in Toulon, France, April 3.

Cutaway 2018 will focus on mine clearance and maritime counter-improvised explosive device (C-IED) techniques. The engagement will focus on disabling IEDs and IED disposal, and participants will share tactics, techniques, and procedures to achieve greater interoperability when conducting combined peacekeeping and humanitarian operations while countering global or regional threats to security.

Commander, Task Force (CTF) 68 commands all Naval Expeditionary Forces in U.S. European Command and U.S. Africa Command areas of responsibility in direct support of Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa, and Commander, U.S. 6th Fleet Maritime and Theater Security Cooperation Strategies and Maritime Support Plans.

U.S. 6th Fleet, headquartered in Naples, Italy, conducts the full spectrum of joint and naval operations, often in concert with allied and interagency partners, in order to advance U.S. national interests and security and stability in Europe and Africa.
