PARIS, France — Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Navy Adm. James Stavridis, attended a think tank seminar in Paris organized by the Institute for Higher National Defense Studies and of Higher Military Training on May 7.

The purpose of the seminar was to allow SACEUR to take part in discussions with representatives from the Institute of Higher National Defense Studies (IHEDN), the Foundation for Strategic Research and the Institute for Strategic Research of the Military School, which represent some of France's preeminent defense think tanks.

During his presentation, Stavridis discussed new threats facing NATO from cyber defense, terrorism, immigration, proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and piracy. His comments echoed those of the French Chief of Defense, French navy Adm. Edouard Guillaud, who spoke just before Stavridis. Guillaud also discussed NATO's role in combating these threats, in particular Article 5 operations and collective defense.

This is the second time that Stavridis and Guillaud have met since Guillaud was recently appointed Chief of Defense.
