The U.S. European Command (EUCOM) Civil Military Operations (CMO) program provides money to subordinate commands and offices of Defense Cooperation (ODC), located at U.S. embassies, to fund basic humanitarian projects. These projects include improving potable water, renovating elementary schools, providing medical vaccinations and veterinary services as well as helping with fire and rescue first response.
The EUCOM CMO Program funded 151 projects in 19 countries in 2009. These projects included school renovations in Estonia, water well projects in Serbia, the building of a fire/rescue station in Moldova and the renovation of an orphanage in Latvia.
The goal of EUCOM's CMO program is to help people in need. Projects funded also promote interoperability and coalition building with foreign military and civilian authorities.
