NATO Kosovo Force soldiers at Camp Bondsteel mark National Day of Prayer
CAMP BONDSTEEL, Kosovo -- Soldiers bowed their heads in reflection and prayer at a service held at the Audie Murphy Medal of Honor Hall in observation of the National Day of Prayer May 6.
Army Chaplain (Capt.) Anthony Williams, of Mount Vernon, Ill., presided over the service and recited the scripture chosen to fit with the prayers selected by the chaplain staff. Prayers included personal prayers and confessions, prayers for the nation’s leaders and prayers for members of the military and their families.
"At each point, the scripture was tied to what was being prayed for," said Williams, who is deputy command chaplain for Multinational Battle Group East. He added that although there were specific prayers during the service, "all prayers were welcome."
"In between the prayers were spiritual videos and time for personal reflection," Williams said.
President Barack Obama proclaimed May 6 the National Day of Prayer for 2010. Held annually on the first Thursday in May, this year marks the 59th observance of the National Day of Prayer. The observance was first signed into law by President Harry S. Truman in 1952.
Multinational Battle Group East is a U.S.- led unit, commanded by Army Brig. Gen. Al Dohrmann. This Battle Group is comprised of nearly 1,200 soldiers, including Task Force Hellas and Task Force POL/UKR (Polish/Ukraine) and Turkey. The charter mission of MNBG-E is maintaining a safe and secure environment and providing freedom of movement for the people in Kosovo.
