The good relations between the U.S. and Liechtenstein are based on close commercial interactions and common support for democracy, human rights, and free markets. The two countries in 2002 signed a mutual legal assistance treaty focused largely on jointly combating money laundering and other illegal banking activities. On December 8, 2008, the two countries also signed a tax information exchange agreement.
