US Embassy-Sofia and Lopyan officials broke ground for the Lopyan project Sunday. The projected consisted of construction of a Dining facility for a primary school with a boarding home for disadvantaged children. Several members of the embassy community, along with the mayor of the town of Lopyan, the mayor of the municipality of Etropole, the director of the school at Lopyan, and the engineering firm involved with the construction, were present to give speeches and celebrate the occasion. Mila, the director of the school was emotional when she recounted the development of the relationship between the US Embassy and the school since 2005. She called the ground-breaking event a “miracle”. It was truly a time to be proud of the work our embassy, the Office of Defense Cooperation, and the Friends of Lopyan, have accomplished over the past seven years.
